Tap Scan Receipt and point the camera at the check. Pitip reads the total, the tax, and any service fee straight off the paper — restaurant checks, bar tabs, and coffee shop slips alike — and drops them into the calculator. How much should you tip?

In the United States, 15–20% is standard for sit-down restaurant service, with 20% considered a generous, well-earned tip for good service. For counter service, takeout, and quick coffee runs, anything you'd like is welcome. Pitip puts 15%, 20%, and 25% one tap away, and lets you enter any custom percentage when you want full control over the gratuity.

Split the bill without the awkward math

Dining with a group? Pitip divides the total — tip included — across any number of people, and the shares always add up to the exact total. When a bill doesn't divide evenly, Pitip shows precisely who pays what, down to the penny. No more passing a phone around the table when it's time to split the bill.

Round the total or hit an exact amount

Paying cash and want a clean number? Round the final total up or down and Pitip adjusts the tip to match. Or use "Make total…" to name the exact amount you want to pay, and Pitip back-calculates the tip percentage that gets you there — perfect for leaving a round number on the receipt.

Tip on the subtotal, not on the service fee

Mandatory service charges, kitchen appreciation fees, and health surcharges increasingly land on the check before you are asked to tip — and tipping on top of them means tipping on a fee. Turn on Tip before tax & fees, enter the tax and fee amounts, and Pitip calculates the gratuity from the subtotal alone. On an $86.75 check carrying $7.16 of tax and a $3.00 service fee, a 20% tip works out to $15.32 rather than $17.35. You still tip generously on the food; you just stop tipping the county and the card reader.
